**** Wow, Super stoked this was chosen as a DD, and even more amazed by the response it has received. Its very flattering!!!! I wont make any comment to why etc she has chosen to pursue a life of piercing, it's very much each to their own :) so...I'm making this as an overall post for the shot as i would love to thank everyone for their favs and comments personally but its becoming a little hard :)...so THANK YOU!! ****

Saw this lady performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Since found out she is the most pierced woman in the world

heres a little bit about her I found scouring the net :)

"Elaine Davidson is the World's Most Pierced Woman, according to the Guinness World Records. When examined by a Guinness official in May 2000, Davidson had 462 piercings, with 192 in her face alone. Performing at the Edinburgh Festival in 2005, the Guardian reported that she now had 3,950 body piercings. She has more piercings in her genitalia than in any other part of the body - 500 in all, externally and internally. The total weight of her jewelry is estimated to be about 3 kilograms. As of May 2008, Davidson's piercings total 5,920. As of Feb. 2009 her piercings total 6,005." Info from...[link]

I have a couple more i'll post too. may combine into a triptych even.

Suggester says, "When I looked at this piece, I didn't really notice the amount of piercings there, but then I had to do a double take. You really can't help wincing when looking at this with morbid fascination. Not only must it have been painful, but it must weigh a lot as well, which puts everything into perspective."

I find it hard to understand why people aren't accepting her and her choices. She is a living, breathing art form and she is amazing!

A wonderful photo full of life and colour! Congratulations on the DD :la:

no, not for fun, but I also don't think she'd go through
all of it to prove something to the rest of the world. It's
far more likely that she has a love/compulsion/addiction for
piercings. Perhaps she finds it beautiful, you never know,
but I certainly wouldn't go through all of that for anyone
other than myself. MAYBE 1000, but several thousand???
I don't think so...she broke the record long ago

i adoooore this picture so much! ive always respected Elaine ever since i heard of her a good while back on BME :o shes pretty brave and damn shes such a beautiful woman too! however i find it off that the thing i find myself wincing the most at is the yellow paint on her stretched earlobe D: that seems like the most annoying itch ever haha then again i have itchy sensitive lobes so maybe its just me >.>

Congrats on the DD btw!! You really deserve it!! :)

hehe, I recognised her immediately XD
been to Edinburgh twice and she's usually at the Royal Mile, sometimes weaving and selling stuff - last year we were sitting around in front of a cafe and she walked by, waved at me and gave me a thumsup, I assume because of my dreadlocks - I felt knighted that day :D

love the colours, I like that you kept it a simple portrait - she's gut such an overwhelming appearance that it doesn't really need anything else

This is cool but she has to have some sort of a mental illness there's no way a sane person would pierce there face 192 times and there no no parts 500 times.

Why does she have to have a mental illness? It's an art form.

Yes it is art and it's cool but really dude do you think a sane person would pierce there self close to two thousand times. And make it so they can not eat properly or talk or walk without difficulty. Also when/if she takes all the piercings out you have to know her body is severely deformed.

Yes, I think a sane person would do that. There's a lot more to piercings and tattoos than meets the eye. Some are aesthetically pleasing and some are invoked into generations of tradition and culture. She's her own person, if she wants to pierce her body almost two thousand times, then be my guest. That's the beauty of it; your skin, your choice. Honestly, I think she is one of the bravest people I know, to get that many piercings with the risk of knowing that your body could and possibly will reject them is a measure of resilience and even stubbornness that I admire.

I admire the fact that she does it and does not care what people think of her. She does it to appease herself, not everyone else. With all the piercings out it does not make you deformed. That's like saying that without all of your clothes on you would be deformed. She is a beautiful person and that doesn't make her "mentally ill."

dude i never said she was not beautiful and really have you ever seen when someone gets rid of there gauages or a plate in there lip or ears there's huge holes in the flesh that can not be healed left that need cosmetic surgery to fix. so in turn her larger piercings would have the same problem and more then likely the 500 in her no no parts if she wanted them gone and wanted to go back to normal she would need it there to also i know she is brave i could barley stand getting my ears pierced.but as i told you before i dont think she is not brave or majestic and that this is not art but more then likely like how i was thinking this woman might have some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder or a tendecy to horde things. but you more then likey right this is her and her way of expressing her self and her own sense of beauty and freedom.

Yes there are holes there, but I'm going to assume that since she has a plethora of piercings that she knows the risks. Besides, if you are serious about getting piercings or stretching your ears/lips/etc. then you wouldn't be thinking about taking them out permanently. I've got many piercings myself, so I know of the pain tolerance, honestly a lot of them do not hurt as much as they are hyped out to be. Also, your skin is resilient, almost like rubber. You can stretch it up to about half an inch and it will shrink back down to normal size. It's sizes above that that are more permanent and people do it because it's an art form and it appeases them.

You and I are no one to judge anyone, if she has some disorder or anything we may never know, but that does not give you the right to say she has a problem without knowing the story behind it.

Dang sorry i made an assumption and i know im not one to talk i have piercings to on a minor scale so sorry i thought that i was being a Hippocrate. i just went off of what i saw and not her back story when i saw her and what i thought. also i keep saying this i dont think her body is not art and that tattoos or body modding or piercings are not art i know they are and i know they make the people who get them happy and that they know the risks.
